The City of Malibu and RBF Consulting (RBF), a Company of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), were recently awarded a 2011 B.E.S.T Award from the Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). The Trancas Canyon Park project received the award in the Recreation and Athletic Facilities category, at the APWA's 12^th Annual Awards Luncheon in Lakewood, California on December 7^th, 2012.

The Park's design plans incorporated over ten sustainable design features, including: permeable, interlocking concrete pavers for parking areas; pervious concrete sidewalk paving; on-site coastal sage scrub restoration; a native plant palette for landscaping; preservation of existing landforms; recycling of rocks generated from grading used as part of the landscaping; earth-tone colored concrete drainage devices; earth-tone colored structures; an on-site storm water detention basin; and amenities such as benches and playground equipment made of recycled materials.

The park is located in Trancas Canyon, just north of the intersection of Trancas Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway, in the City of Malibu, California. The City contracted RBF's Landscape Architecture, Planning and Civil Engineering Team to develop the Park Master Plan, perform hillside grading, complete the construction documents, and conduct community workshops. Park improvements include a multi-use sports field, dog park, playground, picnic tables, restrooms and parking area.

The final design for this award-winning project is the result of a long-term, collaborative community workshop process. Community visioning led to several revisions of the design among other revisions requested by the community.
