Parsons Brinckerhoff To Develop I-35 Corridor Plan In Texas

35-Austin

Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) has been awarded a contract by the City of Austin for the development of a transportation corridor plan along an 18.5km (11.5 miles) portion of Interstate Highway 35 in central Austin, Texas. The aim of the project is to achieve better performance, efficiency and connectivity through greater Austin, while minimizing impacts to the right-of-way and adjacent development. The project is applying a context-sensitive process involving a wide range of agency and public stakeholders. It is anticipated that a variety of potential highway, transit, bike and pedestrian improvements will be generated by this process.

PB is leading a multi-disciplinary team involved in collecting, evaluating, ranking and prioritizing a wide range of mostly short- and medium-term transportation improvements along the corridor. In addition to overall management, the firm's specific roles include: planning and evaluating alternatives; traffic and civil engineering analysis; cost estimating; public and stakeholder outreach; and program development of recommended solutions. PB will also lead the agency partnering process that includes coordination with concurrent transit, highway and toll road studies and projects under way in the Austin area. The corridor plan is scheduled to be completed in early 2013.
