The 3M Scotchcast Polyolefin Fiber System adds toughness and ductility to concrete surfaces and structures. Concrete, which is widely used as a construction material, is naturally brittle. Reinforcement with steel or polyolefin fibers helps improve the life of the concrete.
Polyolefin fibers are tough and flexible like steel, but won't rust. Contractors who mix concrete also can use more polyolefin fibers than steel fibers in the same amount of mixture, which adds toughness and durability to the concrete and reduces the size of cracks that may form.
The 3M Corrosion Protection Products Department produces the polyolefin fiber system for a variety of applications. In addition to road and bridge construction, concrete suppliers and contractors use the product for parking lots, piping, tunnels and other concrete structures.
