Automated Parking Goes Hollywood: Unitronics Opens New Facility In West Hollywood

Fort Lee, NJ /PRNewswire/ - Unitronics Systems Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Unitronics, a leading global provider of industrial automation products, automated warehouses and automated parking solutions, announced the grand opening of its Automated Vehicle Storage and Retrieval System (AVSRS) garage in West Hollywood, serving City Hall and the newly renovated Community Plaza, located at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Unitronics' latest parking project helps "resolve the growing problem of residents and businesses struggling to find parking in the increasingly crowded mid-City area," said Lauren Meister, West Hollywood mayor. "An AVSRS solution allowed the city planners to create 200 parking spaces without having to find land to build a new parking lot or a traditional parking garage for the theater district. We will be using the 7,000 square feet saved to build a community plaza where we can host community events, such as readings and concerts."

Automated parking designs can provide double or even triple the number of spaces that a conventional garage can accommodate while freeing up valuable rentable space, enabling high-density parking and eliminating the need for ramps. The state-of-the-art, high-density system maximizes parking spaces while minimizing environmental impact, using an array of horizontal and vertical conveyance devices and software designed to enable automated and efficient storage and retrieval of cars. "Our automated parking system allows architects and developers to preserve more room for retail or rentable space, while also making the development more attractive overall," said Yair Goldberg, CEO of Unitronics. "Los Angeles is facing a serious parking problem as increased construction has limited public parking availability. This West Hollywood garage exemplifies how an automated parking system can convert a 68-space surface parking lot into a state-of-the-art 200-space automated parking garage, while allowing for community spaces on the same footprint."

Unitronics calls upon decades of experience in the automated solutions industry to bring an industrial, compact and cost-efficient approach to automobile parking. The automated garage is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to taking 92 cars off the road each year, or planting 67,000 trees.
