KS Associates' Coastal Engineering Group has completed surveying and civil engineering services to repair 1,200 feet of the Gordon Park shoreline along Lake Erie that was damaged by erosion and Superstorm Sandy.

(PRWEB) - KS Associates, Inc., a civil engineering and surveying firm located in Elyria, Ohio, has completed design and is providing construction-phase services for the Gordon Park Bike Trail and Revetment Repair Project in the City of Cleveland. The goal of the project is to repair approximately 1,200 feet of the park’s shoreline along Lake Erie that was damaged by erosion and the severe weather effects of Superstorm Sandy. KS is providing services to the Cleveland Metroparks under a design-build contract with Huffman Equipment Rental and Contracting. The project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2014.

The design by KS’s Coastal Engineering Group calls for repairing approximately 410 feet of armor stone revetment that will absorb the energy of incoming waves to protect the shoreline; replacing 240 feet of damaged concrete bike trail, allowing for safe and easy access to the shoreline and recreational areas of the park; repairing concrete slabs to improve areas primarily used for fishing; and installing new aluminum handrails. KS also provided surveying services for the project and assisted the client with obtaining the necessary permitting for construction.

According to Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates, “Gordon Park is an important public space for the City of Cleveland, particularly for east-side residents. KS is helping to restore the park’s amenities after it took a beating from Superstorm Sandy. This project exemplifies the importance of a civil engineer’s role in maintaining lakefront infrastructure.”

The project is being funded in part by a disaster relief fund from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The project is being administered by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission on behalf of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which recently released management of the park to Cleveland Metroparks.
