Marsh-McBirney, Inc. has introduced a new economical flowmeter said to be very effective in conditions such as low flows, wide flow ranges, and bend and elbow installations. The Multi-Mag is accurate to ±1 percent of reading and was designed for use in potable water, raw water, cooling water, water containing sand and grit, or any other debris-free closed pipe application and is ideal for pipe sizes 12in. and greater. The sensor, with a five-year warranty, provides multiple electrodes strategically placed across the sensor which is customer designed for pipe size and will guarantee accuracy even in shifting profiles, unlike single point devices. It can be installed in minutes without system shutdown, and the streamlined sensor shape minimizes flow disturbance, thus providing minimal pressure drop. The device is said to cost substantially less than traditional spool-piece magmeters and turbine meters whose cost rises as pipe size increases.
