Parsons Brinckerhoff Wins Contract For Consultancy Services In Somerset, UK

Parsons Brinckerhoff has secured a nine-year contract with the Somerset County Council to provide engineering consultancy services.

The contract reflects the Council’s desire to partner with a supplier of choice, allowing for established long-term relationships and an in-depth understanding of the Council and its associated stakeholder’s specific requirements. The extended duration also reflects a growing public sector drive to ensure efficient and cost-effective procurement of specialist services by local authorities. Anticipated activity under the framework contract will cover a diverse range of services, including: transportation studies; design of transport improvement and maintenance schemes; environmental planning and consultancy; highways safety studies; structures inspections; and construction management.

The contract has been drafted to enable other local authorities in the South West Highway Alliance including Devon, Dorset, Plymouth, Torbay, and others to procure services through a collaboration agreement.

Cllr Harvey Siggs, the Cabinet Member responsible for highways and transport at the Council said: “We are extremely pleased to have been able to retain the services of Parsons Brinkerhoff and look forward to building a strong partnership with them and with other South West highway authorities through the South West Highway Alliance. Parsons Brinckerhoff’s expertise helped us convince the government to look seriously at improvements to the A303. They are helping us bid for critical infrastructure improvements such as an upgrade to Junction 25 of the M5 and they are also giving us the capacity to deliver an ambitious program of smaller transport schemes across the County. I am pleased that Somerset is leading from the front in developing contracts which can deliver efficiencies for authorities across the whole of the South West.”
