Each rainfall gauge unit includes a microprocessor with a tipping bucket attachment. Using signals collected from the tipping bucket, the microprocessor calculates the amount of rain that has occurred during a chosen interval and stores this calculation for later retrieval. In addition, the rainfall gauge has the capability to communicate with other devices, such as flow monitors with water quality samplers, to trigger condition-specific actions.
