For more than 90 years, one of the leaders in helping people understand and enjoy the rich variety, complexity, and integrated nature of the world has been the National Geographic Society (NGS). NGS produces and maintains a vast library of maps and globes. When the staff of the National Geographic Museum created the exhibit Mapping with Paper and Pixel, it needed a way to present various types of geographic data to people who are unfamiliar with computer mapping and geographic information system (GIS) technology.
