Arup Is Appointed To Develop The Sustainability Masterplan For The Mexico City New International Airport (NAICM)

The airport has a goal to be the first airport in the world to obtain LEED Platinum certification v4 at its main terminal

Mexico /PRNewswire/ - Arup, the global design and consulting firm in the built environment, has been appointed by Grupo Aeroportuario de la Ciudad de Mexico's (GACM) to develop the sustainability plan for the Mexico City New International Airport (NAICM). NAICM aims to triple Mexico City's existing airport capacity (passengers and cargo) in its final phase of operation and to promote economic development in the Mexico City metropolitan area. It is expected to start operations by late 2020, with a capacity of receiving around 68 million passengers.

GACM's goal is for the NAICM to be environmentally sustainable and to be the first airport in the world to obtain LEED Platinum certification v4 at its main terminal. GACM seeks to adopt international best practices related to green airport operations by using renewable energy resources, promoting the use of public transport, and developing programs that would protect the environment, including water resources, energy efficiency, waste management, existing wildlife, and vegetation.
