Berryman & Henigar has acquired Harbor Engineering. Ray Berryman, chief executive officer of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement. The company will continue to operate as Harbor Engineering and will be a division of Berryman & Henigar Enterprises.

Harbor Engineering, established in 1960, is headquartered in Jacksonville, FL with an additional office in Seattle, WA. Major services include port and harbor engineering; petrochemical engineering; stormwater engineering and management; and water and wastewater engineering.

"The acquisition will add marine engineering capabilities to Berryman & Henigar and will provide a credible entry into the strategic Jacksonville region for the merged firm," said Ray Berryman. "The cultures and principal values of both companies make an excellent match and will provide a synergistic union to accelerate continued success."

Lake Ray III, president of Harbor Engineering, added, "the acquisition allows us to expand our engineering capabilities to include more defined civil engineering design, transportation and environmental engineering services."

Harbor Engineering has long been recognized in Jacksonville for its marine engineering expertise and Ray has also been active in the community. He serves as a member of the Jacksonville City Council and was named the city's outstanding Councilmember for 1999-2000. Ray chaired the Council's Transportation and Environmental Energy Committee and served as vice-chairman of the Rules Committee last year. He currently serves on the Zoning and Public Services Utility Committees.

One major project implemented by Harbor Engineering is the redevelopment of Commodore's Point Terminal for the Port of Jacksonville. Key project elements include the bulkhead, warehouse, petroleum facility, auto import/export facility, and a concrete wharf and ship berth for two U.S. Naval Rapid Deployment vessels. Other recent projects include:

  • $ 3 million ship berth for the Navy in Fort Lauderdale.
  • Ford Motor assembly plant in Jacksonville -- redevelopment of a former industrial manufacturing plant into a marina and residential condos.
  • Owens Corning – intermodal shipping terminal with connections for tractor-trailer trucks, barges and rail; 500 ft. long receiving dock for asphalt products.
