APWA CONGRESS: Operator Control System

ControlGuard is a new system for total operator control of snowplow equipment. It is designed for safety, allowing drivers to operate their equipment without having to take their eyes off of the road. The system employs a joystick with three axis (x, y, z) fully proportional control movement from side-to-side (x), forward and back (y) and twist from one side to the other (z). The face of the joystick has six yellow buttons that allow it to switch from one function to another. It comes with standard programming for the separate functions of snowplow, wing plow, underbody plow, hoist or hook lift, sander blast, and sander pass (on/off) functions. The operator can control up to 12 valve sections (24 valve functions) without moving his or her hand. The red safety trigger eliminates the problem operators accidentally bumping the lever and causing damage. It must first be depressed before any valve function can be engaged.
