Constitution Island Association Unveils Online Archive Of Historic Documents Powered By Olive Software

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Constitution Island Association, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the area surrounding West Point, is unveiling its newly digitized online archive. The digital archive was made possible through support and contributions from the Kaplan Fund, The Trustees of the Constitution Island Association, The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Senator Vincent Leibell, and Olive Software digitization technology.

Now in its 92nd year, the Constitution Island Association, Inc. has a rich and varied assortment of documents covering the 19th century and the late 18th century. This collection of over 100,000 pages of documents contains material relating to the Revolutionary War, life on Constitution Island, and the Warner family and their writings. Researches can now browse this material or search by keyword. Entire publications, as well as individual articles can be printed, downloaded, or e-mailed. The collection is available, accessible, and it's free!

Digital archive materials dating back to The Revolutionary War have tremendous historical significance. Association administrators are already making plans to grow the web presence by adding additional content. "The online archive will eventually include materials related to the United States Military Academy, the environmental and geological history of the Hudson Highlands and American literature of the 19th century, "commented Richard de Koster, Executive Director of the Constitution Island Association.

"The Constitution Island online archive is a great example of how a local community's involvement coupled with state of the art digitization techniques can make historical preservation and worldwide access to formerly offline content possible," stated Dewayn Davis, President, Global Field Operations of Olive Software.

Olive proudly serves the preservation, digitization, and access needs of leading libraries and non-profit organizations worldwide, including Suffolk County Public Libraries, Washington Research Library Consortium, University of Illinois, Kings College, University of Pennsylvania, and Oxford to name a few.

About Constitution Island Association
The Constitution Island Association (www.constitutionisland.org) was founded in 1916. The oldest part of West Point, Constitution Island is part of New York State's Revolutionary War History Trail. George Washington recognized the island, the S curve, and the high ground on the Western shore to be of strategic value to winning the Revolutionary War. In the 19th century famous American authors Susan and Anna Warner lived and wrote over 100 books on the island. The first book to sell over 1,000,000 copies, "The Wide, Wide World," and the hymn "Jesus Loves Me" are among the Warner's works. The island is also part of New York's "Women's History Trail."
