Prestressing is achieved by helically wrapping, under measured tension and uniform spacing, a high tensile strength wire around the concrete core. This places the concrete core and embedded cylinder in compression, thereby developing the pipe's ability to withstand design hydrostatic pressures and external loads with an ample safety factor. The pipe is available for diameters from 54-144 in. and for pressures up to 400 psi.
