ENMAX Power Corp. Named Recipient Of GITA's Excellence Award

Denver, CO -- The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) has announced that ENMAX Power Corp., Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was named the recipient of the 2005 GITA Excellence Award. The award recognizes the dedication, insight, and high degree of initiative in the outstanding application of geospatial technology. The award was presented during the Opening Session of GITA's Annual Conference 28, being held March 6-9, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

ENMAX started its GIS implementation in 1992 with the acquisition of an enterprise solution, which was followed by a five-year data conversion project. The main objective of the implementation was to create a centralized repository of the information while improving the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of the data.

The GIS implementation is now used for a wide variety of applications, including outage management, load flow analysis, and automated work order management with wireless crew dispatching and automatic vehicle locating. The GIS, which has been integrated with asset management functions, also drives inspection, maintenance, and replacement programs at ENMAX.

Brad Lawrence, supervisor of the Records, Survey & Land Management department at ENMAX, said, "The real success comes from our strong working relationship with our GIS vendors, GIS consultants and contractors, and the management and staff in our IT department. They have been our business partners throughout all of our numerous projects and systems integration efforts since day one."

Lawrence also credited the leadership at ENMAX with the program's success. "None of this would have been accomplished without the backing and support of our ENMAX executives, who throughout the past 13 years have been strong supporters of this technology and have believed in the value of making the investment into enterprise GIS," he said.
