Keeping Our Cities Beautiful
Graffiti, trash, abandoned cars: the list of blights upon our landscape is endless. Add to the list streetlight poles. Specifically, many poles have uncovered service holes. Dirty, nasty electrical wires hang from the holes. Foul-smelling garbage resides in and around the holes.
People use the holes as waste receptacles, missing the mark with crumpled up sports sections, half donuts, Styrofoam coffee cuts, and on and on.
But this is one blight that can be easily remedied. The plastic door panels quickly eliminate the problem, and in the process save taxpayers money for trash removal.
"By the mere fact that you're eliminating removal, you're eliminating man hours," said Chicago Streets and Sanitation Department's Public Information Officer Ray Padvoiskis.
