CG-90 Surface Saver Liquid De-Icer, featured at the APWA Exposition in Las Vegas, is a solution whose primary component is magnesium chloride. It may be used as a pre-wetting agent to promote faster melting and it is said to reduce the tendency of the deicer being swept off the roadway before it begins to work.
The de-icer contains an inhibitor that forms a protective barrier on exposed metal surface, interrupting the electrochemical process that causes metal to rust.
