New Kind Of Safety Vest For Highway Workers And Police Introduced
The company, Insight Technologies, Inc., located in Vol, Illinois. Michael Coscino, president, one of the retired deputies, said the vests are desirable for a wide variety of sfety vocations and based on personal experience are also designed for lighter weight and vastly improved comfort.
He said the American made product is manufactured and sewn to Insight Technologies specifications by a company in, West Chicago, Illinois. The product and materials meet or exceed the highest industry standards, said the president.
The vest contains a battery-powered inverter which allows the wearer to illuminate the vest, said John Phillabaum, consultant to the company and to the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. He siad the vest is very bright even without being lit. The vest when lit offers three modes of communication.
Coscino said he expects the extra awareness the vest will create for the users and those around them will result in lower accident, death and insurance rates.
Among the applications are those for police, military, emergency management, road construction crews, utility and survey crews, work zone flaggers, railroad, aviation and airport workers, forklift and tow truck drivers, motorcyclists and bicyclists, iron and sewer workers, joggers, crossing guards and search and rescue people.
In police and construction worker tests of the new vest technology, users have said they are "surprised at the great visibility; these are very light to wear and they give off great light" and "they will save lives." Many of the wearers also commented about the improved comfort in wearing the vest compared with what is on the market.
