Papers Solicited for '99 Symposium on Concrete Pipe
The objectives of this symposium are to present historical information on the evolution of specifications and manufacturing technology; describe new design and installation procedures; discuss innovative applications and uses; introduce new technologies for concrete pipe products; and to both discuss and determine the use of and need for new ASTM standards for these products. Concrete pipe products include all the various shapes of pipe, along with circular and box culverts and any other innovative applications of pre-cast concrete drainage devices.
Original papers are solicited on the following topics:
- Design and installation—new design methods including a comparison of direct versus indirect methods, innovations in installation methods and equipment, and comparison of innovations with historical practices
- History and development of concrete pipe and ASTM Committee C-13 standards--history of concrete pipe production and manufacturing methodology, development and evolution of specifications, and specifying concrete pipe products
- Innovative case histories--successful installation and uses of concrete pipe
- New technology--new design methods; unique applications, such as thin-wall or semi-flexible pipe; and the use of new materials and admixtures, such as fly ash or high-strength concrete
Prospective authors are requested to submit a title, a 250-300 word preliminary abstract, and an ASTM paper submittal form by Jan. 16, 1998, to Dorothy Savini, Symposia Operations, ASTM, 100 Barr Harbor Dr., W. Conshohocken, PA 19428-2959: Tel. 610-832-9677. Paper submittal forms are available from Ms. Savini or from the symposium co-chairmen (see below). Do not send abstracts by fax or e-mail.
