Smart Acid Distributors

Uniform acid distribution throughout tower cross section area, low spray generation rate
Uniform acid distribution throughout tower cross section area, low spray generation rate. This is achieved through evenly spaced venturi downcomers discharging inside the packing domain. The head is uniform in distributor piping resulting in even discharge from all downcomers. Low velocity discharge minimises acid splashing and spray formation. The liquid load on downstream mist eliminators is exceptionally small. No field adjustments are required to balance acid distribution.

Insensitive to distributor levelling or variation in liquid flow. Sufficient liquid head is provided over the venturi orifice adapters to allow turn down in acid flow to 80 percent of the design flow rate without affecting the quality of acid distribution.

Gas flow is maximised. Elevation of the distributor into the gas space above the packing maximises the free area for gas flow through the packing. The risk of localised flooding resulting in high pressure drop is minimised.

Resistant to blockage by packing and tower brick chips. The venturi orifice adapters have a pronged crown that resists blockage by packing and brick chips thus maintaining reliable acid flow.

Use of corrosion resistant materials. The distributor construction materials have been proven successful in sulfuric acid service. The materials have a high tolerance to oleum and dilute acid resulting in low sulfate formation and extended equipment life. The reduction in sulfate level also increases acid product quality.

High reliability. There has not been a single mechanical failure of any component in the more than 30 CECEBE SMART acid distributors installed to date. A number of distributors have now been in service for over 8 years.

Symmetry of design. The symmetric distributor layout minimises the number of components required in the assembly and reduces spares inventory requirements.

Ease of field repair. All distributor components are bolted assemblies with spare parts readily available from stock.

Ease of inspection and cleaning. The FEP downcomer tubes are transparent and allow visual confirmation that acid is being discharged from all downcomers. External inspection ports can be provided in the tower wall so that the distributor can be cleaned without requiring tower entry.

Improved personnel accessibility and safety. The distributor is located above the packing to facilitate work access. Workmen can step over and stand on the distributor pipes. The distributor components do not have sharp edges to damage protective gear worn by workmen.
