ABB Automation Inc. Instrumentation Divisionany%> recently unveiled the Elsag Bailey Type EBTH Platinum Standard Smart Temperature Transmitter. The Type EBTH is a HART version of the Bailey-Fischer & Porter Type EQS Transmitter that has been in service for over 2 years. Uses for the new transmitter include process control applications in the chemical, refining, food and beverage, pulp and paper and steel industries.

The new device can replace most 4-20 mA output temperature transmitters that operate over a two-wire system and EQS transmitters can be converted to the EBTH version. Any standard HART communication device can be used to communicate with the EBTH and Device Descriptors (DDs) are registered with the HART Foundation and are available to all HART members.

The EBTH also communicates with the Elsag Bailey STT04 Handheld terminal and SmartVision windows-based software so calibration, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting can be accomplished from both local and remote locations. The new transmitter accepts RTD, thermocouple, millivolt and ohms inputs, and user-customized output can be linear with respect to selected temperature span, or follow a user-programmed function generator.

The EBTH's sophisticated electronic amplifier assembly exceeds 50 years mean time between failures, and FM and CSA have certified the device as explosionproof, dust ignitionproof and nonincendive.
